Modelling inflammation

After infection, a normal immune response is required to fight off disease. However, an excessive immune response can result in sepsis, in which inflammation spreads throughout the body and the immune system can damage organs, causing dysfunction or even death. Sepsis is the second most prevalent cause of death in hospital intensive care units and is among the top 10 causes of death in the overall population. Researchers at The Cure Is Now are working on developing a computational model of the inflammatory response, with the ultimate goal of using the model to design a biohybrid device that can regulate and control the immune response in sepsis and other inflammatory diseases.

Creating the computational model would require a team of 3-5 researchers, and developing the biohybrid device will require 3 more researchers. In addition, an inflammation-regulating bioreactor and reagents will be necessary.
